Microvir 250mg (Famciclovir)
Microvir 250mg is required to prevent the symptoms of herpes zoster which is also known as shingles, a herpes virus infection of the skin. Microvir 250mg is used to cure and suppress herpes labialis (cold sores) and relapsed episodes of genital herpes infection.

This medicine is also preventing recurrent herpes virus infections of the mucous membranes (lips and mouth) and genitals in HIV-infected patients.
Even if Microvir 250mg will not cure genital herpes or herpes zoster, it does help relax from the pain and discomfort and helps the sores heal faster. This medicine is available only with your doctor's prescription under the guidance of medical practioners.
INDICATION
Microvir 250mg tablets is a prodrug form of penciclovir which are a nucleoside associated DNA polymerase inhibitor indicated for Immunocompetent Adult Patients Herpes labialis (cold sores): Microvir 250mg indicated for the treatment of recurrent episodes of herpes Labialis. Microvir 250mg used to treatment of recurrent episodes of Genital herpesand used for Suppressive therapy of recurrent episodes. Microvir 250mg is indicated for the treatment of Herpes zoster (shingles) For HIV-Infected Adult Patients, Microvir 250mg is indicated for the treatment of recurrent episodes of orolabial or genital herpes
MECHANISM OF ACTION
Famciclovir readily go through biotransformation to penciclovir, which has preventory activity against HSV types 1 (HSV-1) and 2 (HSV-2), varicella-zoster virus (VZV). Thymidine kinase then add phosphorus group to penciclovir to a monophosphate form, which is then converted to penciclovir triphosphate. This blocks HSV-2 DNA polymerase by competing with deoxyguanosine triphosphate, thus prohibiting herpes viral DNA synthesis and multiplication.

Fastly absorbed from the GI tract. The Microvir 250mg has Bioavailability: 77% (penciclovir) and Time to peak plasma concentration 1 hr. Food may delay absorption.
DISTRIBUTION
Plasma protein binding of Microvir 250mg is <20%.
METABOLISM
changed to penciclovir through deacetylation and oxidation.
ELIMINATION
Famtrex: excreted through urine (73%); faces (27%). Elimination half-life of Famtrex: 1.6-3 hr.

THE PATIENTS SUFFERING WITH HERPES SIMPLEX – SUPPRESSION
The usual dose is 250mg twice a day orally for Immunocompetent patients. The usual dose is 500mg twice a day orally for HIV- Infected patients.
THE PATIENTS SUFFERING WITH HERPES ZOSTER
Dose prescribed is 500mg every 8 hours for 7 days orally.
THE PATIENTS SUFFERING WITH HERPES SIMPLEX LABIALIS
Recurrent herpes labalis: 1500mg single dose orally.
THE PATIENTS SUFFERING WITH HERPES SIMPLEX – MUCOCUTANEOUS / IMMUNOCOMPETENT HOST
The dose is 250mg administrated 3 times a day given orally for 7 to 10 days. The recommended dose for Relapsed episodes is1000mg twice a day for 1 day orally rather 125mg twice a day orally for 5 days.
THE PATIENTS SUFFERING WITH HERPES SIMPLEX – MUCOCUTANEOUS / IMMUNOCOMPROMISED HOST
Relapsed episodes prescribed dose is 500mg twice a day for 7 days.
OVERDOSAGE
Microvir was well tolerated, if it occurs provide supportive and symptomatic treatment should be given as appropriately.

• Excess air or gas in the stomach or intestines

• Diarrhea
• Cramps
INCIDENT NOT KNOWN SIDE EFFECTS OF MICROVIR 250MG
- Black stools
• Bleeding gums
• Blistering, peeling of the skin
• Dizziness
• Joint or muscle pain
• Pinpoint red spots on the skin
• Yellow eyes or skin
• Sores, ulcers or white spot in the mouth or on the lips.
PRECAUTION
Susceptible to famciclovir, penciclovir cream (Denavir), acyclovir (Zovirax), any other medications, or lactose. Consult your doctor Consult your doctor if you had problems with your immune system, (HIV), (AIDS); inherited conditions where the body is not able to tolerate lactose; or kidney or liver disease.
Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, decide to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. While takingMicrovir treatment If you become pregnant, discuss with doctor about the condition. Microvir 250mg may produce drowsy, dizzy, confused, or disoriented. Avoid drive a car until reaction of medication you feel.
DRUG INTERACTION
Concomitant use of digoxin with Microvir will slightly increase the digoxin in your blood. Famciclovir combination with probenecid will raise the level of Famciclovir in your blood and increase side effects.
PREGNANCY
Category B: In animal reproduction studies have not described about the fetal harm but in human studies have no controlled studies carried out in the 1st trimester.
LACTATION
Microvir 250mg Excretion into human milk has no known data. On the safety of penciclovir in nursing infants has no data available. The drug should be avoided in breast feeding mother.
STORAGE

MISSED DOSE
Immediately administer the medicine as you remember, If you missed any dose.If next dose time reaches swap the missed dose and continue the regular schedule. avoid taking double dose at a time. Please consult the doctor for further details.
